Donald Trump could create a space army to stand next to the traditional branches of the military, he said. Speaking to the US Army, he said the country needed to develop another group to fight in space, in what appeared to be a surprise announcement. He told members of the Army football team, during the presentation of a trophy, that the administration is ' seriously thinking ' about establishing another branch of the armed forces.

The American president told the football players that they were in the Rose Garden of the White House:
You will be part of the five proud branches of the United States Armed Forces – Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force and Coast Guard. And we're really thinking about a sixth, and that would be the space force. Does that make sense to you? The space force, General. You probably didn't even hear about it. I'm just telling you now. That's maybe because we're getting too big in space, both militarily and for other reasons, and we're seriously thinking about the space force.
It's not the first time that Trump has suggested that it will establish a space force. He mentioned the idea for the first time in March, when he observed the growing importance of space as a potential battlefield. Trump added:
I was saying that the other day, because we're doing a tremendous amount of work in space–maybe we need a new force, we'll call it space force. I wasn't really serious, and then I said ' what a great idea, we might have to do that. That could happen.
Some suggested that the president might be joking, but a few days after the comments the White House clarified that he was serious. At the moment, the Air Force is responsible for any military concerns that may arise in space. But experts warn that space will be more and more contested in the coming years, as more and more complex weapons are built and more opportunities are opened to explore the region off the earth… Source)
